約10年前ジャンチブさんは東北サーバス支部総会に出席してくださったので、覚えていらっしゃる方もあることでしょう。
３月２３日に日本にいるモンゴル人たちを国に返すチャーター便で彼は日本に入りました。その「第二の故郷に恩返し」の見出しにもあるように彼の東北大学大学院で勉強した期間は大変長かったようです。
そして、恩返しのために日本にしばらく滞在しお世話になった人に恩返しをしているのです。
美しい話ですが、もし、私がジャンチブさんの立場だったら果たして放射能漏れの恐怖に怯えている所にわざわざやってくるでしょうか？
以上、簡単な報告をさせていただきます。

Tohoku Japan Earthquake, Report from Sendai: 20 March 2011

We have been doing fine so far. The nearly tense problems are food, fuel and the power plants in Fukushima.
· Luck of Lifeline
Transportation, not only for people but also for goods, stopped because of luck of fuel, we don’t get any supplies in our region. To make it worse, people just stop their cars in a line in front of service stations to try to buy some fuel, that prevent other transportations going through. Even if they wait in a line, there is little possibility to be able to buy fuel. Of course, if there ever is any supply, first of all it should be given to the most damaged area, where so many people are in dead or alive situation. Therefore there is no prospect when we can buy food and fuel. We still have a little food stock and half tank-full petrol in our cars. No matter what, we have to keep petrol for emergency. My husband walks 6 km to work to save petrol. But food, kerosene and gas in the propane tank won’t last long. After we use them up, we won’t be able to use our heater, shower, stove to cook and food. We are trying not to use them as hard as possible.
· Escaping or staying
The worst is the power plants problem. Government and the power plant staff are working hard to prevent the worst result. Japan force started watering from the helicopters and fire engines water from the ground to cool fuel rods down. At the same time, they are trying to supply electricity to the power plants so that the Emergency Core Cooling System will hopefully start working. We can’t make any predictions about the situation. I got so many emails from all over Japan and abroad, some of them offered the hospitality, some gave an advice to escape from Japan or leave away from the power plant. That is really grateful and I appreciate all of them that so many people care of us so much. We thought if we should leave away or not, and if yes, to where and how. Only one thing is clear that if we leave away from the power plants the farer, it is the safer. We wondered so much if we really need to do so, while the government is announcing needles escapes prevent the aid supply and emergencies access. They keep announcing that scientific numbers still indicate very low degree of danger that it doesn’t bring any harm to people’s health. We have no idea how much it is dependable. On some web sites, the worst result could be worse that Chernobyl, while on some sites the systems are basically different that the damage would not be too serious. After all no one can tell the future. It is true that some people are already escaping from the power plants or eve from Japan. But on the other hand, some people just come into the disaster area to work as volunteers to help the people. Some of them even lost their own family or house and still trying to help other people. I wonder what it means that we run away from here leaving the people who are spending much more hard time and helping each other in really severe situation behind, while we have home to keep us warm and are able to eat warm food. I just don’t know the answer. Even if we are here, we can’t be any help for them since only the thing we can do now is walking one store to another to try to get some food or just to stay at home not to get cold or waste any fuel. More over, leaving Japan to other country means that we may have to give up the guarantee of life in Japan later on. All my family members are here. If it results in the worst case after we run away and survive while family we left in Sendai have died, how we would feel??? I just can’t get any image of it. The future is so vague. Finally we made one decision and made a reservation of the flight to Sapporo, which is up North in Hokkaido and 500km away from the power plants on 26th. It was the earliest flight to anywhere we could reserve. It is insurance for us. That is we can watch how the situation will change to that period and then we can escape or cancel it according to the outcome. We hope we don’t have to use it. By the way, we gathered our old clothes we don’t wear any more yesterday so that the father of our son’s classmate who works at Japan Force can take them to the disaster area.
· Japanese, hard workers
2days after the earthquake, my husband went to his office just to have a look and found most of his colleagues were already there! Some of them just couldn’t go home and spent the night there. But workers themselves are already heading to the revival. His boss ordered him to work and check on a destroyed cemetery, which is obviously dangerous and doesn’t seem to be a tense essential for the moment, while their own houses are still in a mess after the earthquake. 1 week after the earthquake, we got a phone call from the construction company we were discussing our house. They say that the government aid to the long-term superior house will restart its application for this year. It sounds a bit strange to hear that kind of news when people are worrying about their life. The president of the company sounds very proud to know that even one house they have built was not washed away by tsunami. I was surprised again to talk with him and thought; it is well known that Japanese people work very hard and it was one thing I didn’t like. I have been thinking if they take more holidays and enjoy their leisure more. But maybe that is why Japan is reviving so quickly even after such a great earthquake and tremendous damage, just like they have done once just after World Second War. At that time as well, they must work hard same as now, to rebuild Japan up to the No.1 economic power in such a short period. It is just amazing how they can work for the company, for the society for the other people when they don’t have food to eat. Even when they are having a hard time to get food they just wait in a long line for long hours sometimes exchanging the information where and how we can buy the food. There is not any matter of plunders who break into the stores to steal things. Even in the emergency evacuation area, even when they cannot get enough food distribution, they share little bit of food. Japan may not be completely hopeless country as I have thought.

皆さまにメ−ルや電話をいただきながら返信をまともにできず
忙しくしておりました。 本当に失礼いたしました。
３／１１の震災から２週間がたちました。 海岸線に住んでいて
巨大津波の被害を受けた方々と、山側に住んでいる私とは被害
の状況もかなり違うことをご理解いただいて、私なりの簡単な報告
をご心配お掛けしている皆さまへの感謝こめて書かせていただきます。
我が家では懐中電灯で夜を過ごしたのは１晩だけでした。 二日目からは
IHヒ−タ−を使っていたので簡単な料理もできました。
問題は水でした。 川から汲んで来たり、近くの家庭でいただりして１週間の
水運びに疲労困憊しました。
今は入浴も洗濯も可能になり、水に依存している生活を改めて実感しました。
ガソリンや灯油の不足は今だ続いていて、車を使えない状態がいつまで続くのか
ストレスが私にもたまってきました。
我が家にサ−バス・トラベ−の滞在者が５００人を超えていますが、サ−バス
活動の良き理解者の夫の会社について触れさせてください。
夫の会社は各種車を主にロシア・モンゴルに輸出する仕事をしています。
壊滅的破壊した石巻港に３／１７日に出港のため置かれていた４台の重機車が
全て流されました。
会社から石巻港までの道が３日前から開通したところで車を見に行ったところ、あの
重く大きな重機車３台を港からかなり離れたところで見つけたのです。
もちろん水浸しして使い物になりませんが..........ロシアとの問題で、後始末は
これから時間を掛けてやっていくことでしょうが。 いかに巨大地震津波だったか分かります。
私の自宅から近くのス−パ−のお店も長い列を作って待つこともなくなり、新鮮な
食品を買えるようになりました。 一日何回かある余震に悩まされています。
福島原発の問題も解決までに時間がもう少し掛かるようですから、サ−バス東北支部
にも福島県に住む会員が４名います。 どんな思いで生活していられるか案じています。
